About Sounds of Horror

A curated guide to the sample libraries, plugins, sound packs and instruments that composers use to write frightening music, and the techniques that make them work.

Sounds of Horror is run by Richard Pryn, a trailer composer who started writing music for movie trailers in 2011 and began teaching other composers in 2017. His music has been used in trailers for The Conjuring 2, The Nun II, The Lodge and The Pale Blue Eye.

How listings are chosen

Every tool is checked against the developer's own product page before it's published: the exact name, what it runs in, the price (with the date it was checked) and the licence. We don't publish ratings or reviews we haven't earned, and we never use product artwork without permission.
